Look into the eyes of the sun on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
We went to one of the 1000 islands off of Jakarta’s coast, Pulau Macan or Tiger Island, a very small island and this is the view at 5 in the morning from the pier, an alternative version of the take I posted previously. BTW, you can listen to “Blinded by the Light” by Manfred Mann if you so choose!

Relax, take it easy, go for a swim… on Flickr.

We went to one of the Thousand Islands off of Jakarta’s coast, Pulau Macan or Tiger Island, a very small island and this is the view from the pier during the day. Even though the sun is up, there’s rain on one of the small islands to the right. No rainbows though.

After unsuccessfully trying to get to the Sky Lounge on the 56th floor of the BCA tower at Plaza Indonesia we moved to Semanggi Sky Dining to try our luck there, the third location and it was getting late… Once arrived we set up our cameras and started to get a feel for the place, was not optimal but at least we tried .. until Security guards came and chased us away due to the fact that there was a venue (football match that Bayern won!) to start and that we need to vacate this area immediately. The venue was adjacent to where we were and surely wouldn’t disturb us but they insisted… so we called it a day or night. This is the only shot I managed to pull off in the short time there. Next time I will come prepared… no more sandals!

Skyline shot from a “top secret” location that charges 180.000 Rupiah for an Erdinger beer! This was taken around 18h so half way through the Jakarta Blue Hour (sun sets at 17:30h). Down below you see Hänsel & Gretel with fountain and a wee bit of traffic around it. Since it was Waisak on that day, not too many people were at work, hence a lot of “dark” windows.

This was taken through thick glass with glaring reflections in the sky. I tried to get rid of them using the new Lightroom 5 healing brush.

Since this location was “indoors” I wanted to change to the BCA Sky Bar (big tower in the pic) but alas I was wearing Sandals… dress code… they didn’t let us in… that night we did not have much luck getting any skyline shots done as Security chased us away at the next spot at Semanggi Sky Dining as well…

We went to one of the Thousand Islands off of Jakarta’s coast, Pulau Macan or Tiger Island, a very small island with a sped boat. Here’s us leaving. Farewell Pulau Macan!

I had a scary moment on the boat … I was snapping away at each stop from island to island when suddenly I got an “Error 02 - There was a problem with your CF card, please replace the card.” somthing like that. So I switched off, took the card out and put it back in, switched on and … “No image” was glaring at me… WTF?!! Switch off, on. NO FRACKING IMAGE! The card was empty! All 3 days of Island shooting gone… or so it seemed. Back in Jakarta at the dock I raced to the car, got my laptop out and tried right away to check the card. Empty! I was not amused.

Back home I used a Recovery software to restore (almost) all the photos, I lost about 50 or so. I had macro shots of a gigantic grasshopper, very detailed headshot. Gone. Reason for the Error? Who knows. I suspect “Magic Lantern” to be the culprit though I can’t really know for sure, regardless I removed Magic Lantern from my camera now. May “Error 02” never happen to you!

Little Tiger Island on Flickr.

We went to one of the Thousand Islands off of Jakarta’s coast, Pulau Macan or Tiger Island, a very small island and this is the view from the little island that is part of Tiger Island previously seen from the pier. We rowed over there on surf boards that day. Many sand castles were built and destroyed that same day!
